The GMC Canyon is powered by a 2.7L turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with 310 horsepower. The 2023 Canyon is available in four-wheel drive with four trims Elevation, AT4, AT4X and Danali while the 4x2 model is only available in the Elevation trim.
Two-wheel drive Canyons are the most efficient powertrains and are capable of 23 highway mpg. When properly equipped, Canyons have a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds. The 2023 Canyon is only available as a crew cab with a 5 foot box.
Base Elevation Canyons are adequately equipped with standard features that include 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, 18-inch aluminum wheels, an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 3 USB ports and 6-way manual driver seat adjustment.
AT4 models are more off-road focused and include an automatic locking rear differential, hill descent controls, integrated bed storage, an easy-lift and lower tailgate, LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, and off-road low speed cruise control.
Moving up to the AT4X adds a driver selectable locking rear differential, premium shocks, 4 skid plates, a spray-in bed liner, heated front seats, wireless device charging, a head-up display, and rear parking sensors.
The Denali trim sits at the top of the lineup and features side steps, chrome accents, heated side mirrors, LED taillights, 20-inch alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, a 10-way power driver seat, leather upholstery, a 7-speaker sound system, adaptive cruise control, 4 USB ports, an 11-inch digital gauge display, a heated steering wheel and surround view cameras.
Like most modern vehicles, safety is addressed by a combination of airbags and electronic systems designed to help prevent an accident. The Canyon comes with a rearview camera, anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control, forward collision alert, a lane-departure warning system as standard. Features such as rear collision mitigation and blind spot warning are optional on the elevation trim and standard on the AT4X and Denali trims.

The GMC Canyon is fully redesigned for 2023.
The GMC Canyon fits the bill for people who need solid utility but appreciate the fuel economy compromises a full-sized pickup truck bring with it. As trucks have gotten more capable, they've also gotten bigger. Some buyers are looking for a truck's cargo capacity but don't want to give up fuel economy or maneuverability. Enter the GMC Canyon, with a footprint that's not much bigger than the average mid-size sedan. The GMC Canyon competes with such compact trucks as the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier.
